8th Edition, 8-10 July 2021
in Lisbon and/or online

Since its first iteration in 2014, almost 300 papers have been presented at the Urban Creativity conference. For the 8th edition of the conference, we invite abstracts related broadly to urban creativity (e.g. street art, graffiti, urban foraging, parkour, skateboarding and guerrilla gardening), user experience (e.g. desire lines, design thinking, interaction design ) and/or public art. Where applicable, abstracts may also deal with the specific themes outlined in the separate calls for submissions to the journals associated with the conference (see below).

Drawing on the positive experiences from the purely online format of the 2020 conference, the 2021 edition will take place as a hybrid event or – if covid-19 restrictions remain in place – entirely via video conference. This call, then, is open to all contributors, whether or not they expect to be able to visit Lisbon in person.

Please submit your abstract (250-300 words) no later than 15 May 2021 via the submission platform.
Notifications of acceptance/refusal will be sent out by 1 June 2021.

For those who wish to participate in the conference without presenting a paper, registration will open soon. Authors of accepted abstracts do not need to register.

Authors are also encouraged to develop their abstract into a full article and submit it to one of the journals associated with the Urban Creativity conference (the deadline for submitting full journal articles is 5 August 2021). For guidelines on submitting working papers, full articles, and reviews please see the respective journal’s current calls:

SAUC – Street Art and Urban Creativity journal

UXUC – User Experience and Urban Creativity journal (submissions open, text of the call soon)

CAP - Public Art Journal (submissions open, text of the call soon)

These journals are closely connected to the Urban Creativity conference, but full articles are subject to a separate peer review process. Therefore, presenting a paper at the Urban Creativity conference does not guarantee subsequent publication in one of the journals. Likewise, it is possible to submit an article for review to one of the journals without presenting a paper at the conference.
